Children TV program

A long long time ago a girl fell in love with Barney.  She repeatedly watched the same CD even as we tried to introduce new CD to her.  Well, though she enjoyed it so much, the adults were pretty bored after watching it umpteen times.

At first she only watched for the first few songs.  As time passed, it captured her attention till she finished the whole CD.  She loved to watch the umbrella song and the silly hat song.

Then came a time she was getting a little bored with it, we started to change to new CD.  We were certainly grateful for that change.

As she grows older, we introduced Sesame Street to her.  Personally I find it boring.  A friend gave us a soft toy - Big Bird.  It is quite big, bigger than the girl!  And it's quite heavy.  She loves the Big Bird.  She hugs and kisses him.  The latest trick is playing pretend by washing the Big Bird's backside after he has poo.

However, when we brought her a jigsaw puzzle with Doraemon, she instantly switched it to this Japanese cat like robot.  Unfortunately we couldn't find one with English or Mandarin speaking.  It's either Cantonese or Japanese!

Next came the Little People CD from Fisher&Price.  She watched it happily and asked questions on why this and why that.

She also love Thomas & Friends CD.  The talking train has since then won her heart.  She relates to the story as she plays her toy train.  She even name all her trains followed after the CD.

Then Shrek came into picture.  She loves the ugly ogre, the beautiful princess Fiona, the donkey and the meow meow cat.  Nowadays, whenever we showers her, she will also bath her toy Shrek and Fiona.  She watched the CD so many times until mummy also knows by heart every line for each scene.

Her latest crush is the Disney Pixar Cars.  We happened to watch this movie when we went for a church retreat and it was on TV one particular night.  Daddy decided to buy the CD for her and she has been watching it since then.  However, one needs to be patience as she bombarded you with lots and lots of questions that leave you speechless.

I do not promote watching TV.  But Andrew is an living example of how he learned lots of stuff and picked  up new vocabulary from TV program.  My mom in law is a witness to that.  I tried to limit our princess to 2 times a day before I was pregnant.  But nowadays she watches more as I needed the rest.  She is not a TV addict though.  She does not demand for it.

And guess who is this little girl?  Who else could it be?

CNY 2011

Chinese New Year is just another public holiday for us.  We didn't plan to go back to JB, my hometown.  After all, my sis n mom won't be around.  So, just stay put in Subang, together with my in laws.

2nd day of CNY, one of my in law's neighbour has invited a lion dance team to his house.  When I heard the drum rolling, my father in law and I brought Elyse to experience this traditional chinese culture.  To our surprised, she enjoys it!  I was a little worried that the drum may be too loud for her tiny ear, yet it turned out fine for my darling.

She stared in awe as she watched the 2 lions jumping up and down, moving from side to side.  After that, she went back and played with her toy lions, doing exactly what she just saw.  Since her toy drum is in our house but we were in our in law's house that morning, she used a box as her drum.  My father in law gave her a pair of chopstick and that becomes her drumstick.

Few days later we brought her to Subang Parade for dinner.  Coincidentally there was a lion dance performance there.  Elyse was excited!  She watched with undivided attention as the lion moved around.  She even took a photo with the lion!

Since then, she has been asking to watch lion dance.  But to her disappointment, I think that would be the last one before the next CNY.

Besides the lions, Elyse enjoys playing with the fireworks.  She holds it in his hands n waves it around.  Her beautiful eyes follow those sparkles and fire as she waves it in the air.

GongXi GongXi is the new vocabulary she learns this CNY.  She heard the songs all over the mall and she picks this one up all by herself.

Just before CNY, I brought her a new cheongsam.  It fits her well though it's a little bigger.  We hope to keep it till next CNY since the previous one only lasted for a few months.

A little set back is when our little princess fall sick.  She has slight running nose.  We brought her to see the doctor and she's now recovering.  This reminds me of her first CNY she was also down with flu.  First time in her life she fell sick.  That was also the time we've decided to brought her to our present doctor and are happy to be with him till now.

This is the story of our little princess.  She is the centre of our lives.

Our princess Elyse

Elyse is really blessed in many ways.
Many of her clothes are given by my sister and church members.
It may be second hand, yet some of them are quality stuff and in good condition.

Recently when I was doing the packing for the moving house,
found out that there were 2 big bags of Elyse's old clothes ready to be given away.
And another 2 big boxes of new/used clothes are kept
for Elyse when she grows bigger/older.

For the past 2 weeks Elyse has been asking a lot of 'why'.
"Why daddy go Teluk Intan?"
"Why Ah Gong sleep?"  "Why raining?"
These are some of the the questions just to name a few.

We smile as we tried our best to answer this curious little girl.
However, sometimes we struggle to explain the simple thing in life.
It's fun to see how such a small brain can produce those wonderful questions.
Elyse is created in God's image, this I'm sure.

We had our hard time when playing pretend with Elyse.
For she loves to play 'talking' with everything she comes across.
Her toys are not just limited to what we call 'toys'.
But even her toothbrush, her blanket, her pajamas are part of her 'talking buddies'.

We love Elyse just the way she is.
She may be naughty at times, yet she's always our precious girl.
She's God blessing to both Andrew and I.
We treasure every moment as we journey along with her.

Precious moment

Elyse has been a cute wonderful darling to us.  Many times we are amazed by her ability to convey her thoughts to us though she's only 2 years and 3 months.

One example:

This morning, Ah Gong was carrying Elyse and they met Rev Wong Onn Thau as they walked into the sanctuary.
Rev Wong asked Elyse: "Where is your daddy?"
Elyse: "Teluk Intan."
Rev Wong: "Why are you not in Teluk Intan with daddy?"
Elyse: "No house."
They burst into laughter.
We have never mentioned to our precious one that the parsonage in Teluk Intan is not ready to move in yet.  But probably she has learned that during our conversation with others.

Another exmaple:

We went to a restaurant for dinner today.  After everyone got their dishes, Elyse started asking: "Daddy eating wat?"
Daddy: "Fried rice."
Elyse: "Mommy eating wat?"
Mommy: "Kuey Teow."
Elyse: "Ah Gong eating wat?"
Ah Gong: "Ah Gong is eating mee."
Elyse: "Ah Mah eating wat?"
Ah Mah: "Ah Mah's eating mee also."

Then Elyse began her second round of interrogation.  She asked everybody the same question again.  But this time Ah Mah accidentally said "Rice" intead of "Mee".
Elyse: "No, Ah Mah eat mee, not rice."

One round of applause for our darling.  She actually remembers!

Many many other examples like this happen everyday.  I wish I could write all of them down.  Sometimes it just slip through my mind.  But Elyse is definitely a joy to us.  We thank God for such a wonderful daughter.

Christmas 2010

This is the 3rd Christmas for Elyse.  And she enjoyed it very much compared to the last two.  We received lots of presents this year.  Maybe it's also due to the move.  Elyse enjoys opening each one of them.  She's now quite an expert in opening presents.  Thanks for all the thoughful member of the church.

We brought Elyse to the candlelight service on Friday evening.  Though this is the 3rd time she attended, the first time she was too young (only 3 months old!); the second time when the light was off, I carried her to the church foyer, worried that she might be frightened of the dark.  This year I stayed in the church sanctuary with her.  She enjoyed lighting the candle and held it on her little finger.  I was careful to make sure the wax doesn't drip on her.

That night when I told her that we wld be going to the church again the next day for Christmas Service, she asked for the candle.  The same happenned on Saturday night when I told her we wld be going for Sunday Service.  Looks like my little princess has fallen in love with candle.

We taught her to say 'Merry Christmas' and she learned it very fast.  To my surprise, while we were in the church, when people shake hands with her, she will automatically say 'Merry Christmas'.  That was so sweet of her.

Lately she has also learned to say 'Thank you so much' from Thomas & Friends video.  She said it whenever people gives her something.  One aunty commented: normally children say 'Thank you' we would be very happy and contented.  Elyse could even say 'Thank you so much' that really melted her heart.

On Christmas day we brought Elyse to McD for dinner.  She practically ate the entire drumstick of the fried chicken!

These are some of the beautiful memories from my little princess.

A Thankful Heart

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!
As we are heading towards the end of year 2010, I'm ever grateful to God for what He has done in my life for the past one year.

As I was preparing myself to be a fulltime housewife at the end of 2009, God spoke to me that He will release me into new ministry.  I wondered what could it be then?  And yes, I doubted it.  I couldn't understand how could it be possible to involve in a new ministry when I resigned from my current job to take care of my toddler fulltime.  But again, God has His marvelous plans installed for me.

As I adjusted myself to be a housewife, Grace approached me one Sunday in April and asked me to take the lead in teaching at Vacation Church School (VCS) in June.  As usual, my immediate reaction was:  I can't.  I have to take care of my girl.

Back home, I prayed and requested God to give me the main theme of VCS, if I would to take charge of the teaching.  One week passed by.  No words from the Lord.  Two days before I decided to answer Grace, God spoke to me as I was reading a book on marriage.  "Everyone is special in the eyes of God.  Everyone has something unique and wonderful in them.  Even the worst man on earth.  Because we are all made in the image of God.  We are God's chosen treasure."  I am one who is guilty of turning away to another direction when I see someone who is 'bad' coming towards my direction in church.  Just don't feel like to have anything with these people.  But God convicted my heart.  And I know instantly that this is the theme for VCS.

The many days and weeks before VCS, I burned lots of midnight oil to prepare for the teaching.  I had not been involved in children ministry for a number of years but I was excited in sourcing out the materials and resources.  I have some experiences in the past on how to prepare for lessons.  But it was not an easy task.  Many thanks to hubby for helping me to prepare some of the props and my in laws for taking care of Elyse whenever I need some time out.

Though throughout the entire VCS we did not experience God coming down to us like thunder storm or lightning  :p  I'm certainly grateful for such wonderful opportunity to minister to the children from various background.  The youth and adults who helped out during VCS were excellent and may God bless them abundantly.

Just when I thought everything is over and now that I'm back to my routine, I was asked to choreograph a dance for the GB girls.  It was yet another experience for me as I have not been dancing for a long long time, and I'm not familar with ribbon dance at all.  But thank God for seeing me through.  The feedback was simple and nice.  Taking into consideration that the two girls did not have any background or formal training from dancing and we only had 2 to 3 times to practise.

It was indeed a fruitful year for me.  I may not be able to involve actively in ministry like I used to be, yet God has opened new doors for me to launch in.  Hubby is ever supportive when I take up these challenges and juggle between ministry and home.  My in laws are always there whenever we need help.  These are my family.  I truly thank the Lord for each of them.

Farewell

Both Andrew and I were not very keen on the farewell party organised by the church.  Andrew has tried to request not to have one, yet it is the tradition of the church.  Out of obligation we attended though my little princess was not feeling well that evening.

It turned out to be a great and beautiful moment for both of us.  We were caught in surprised when a few youth requested the MC to slot them into the program.  They expressed their gratitude to Andrew and I in their own simple way.  No fancy words.  But that is the way I love it.  They said it with their heart, not trying to impress people with their words.

Most of the youth got close to Andrew during the Youth Camp.  God worked powerfully during that few days and many were touched as Andrew ministered to them in word of knowledge and word of wisdom.  In fact, Andrew himself was amazed that the Holy Spirit just released those words in his heart.

I got the chance to work with the youth during VCS.  They helped me tremendously.  At times I can see that they were so tired yet they pressed on.  It is never an easy task to minister to children.  It requires lots of energy, stamina, creativity and above all, love for the kids.

Andrew was touched to see so many turned up.  We received many apologies from church members for unable to make it on that day.  A lot of seniors attended.  Some were even on wheelchair.  Some youth who are sitting for SPM were there, too.  I was surprised to see Ivy and her husband were there.  A few seniors introduced themselves to me.  Apparently they came to know me few years back when I was still working in the church office.  Called them for various reasons and they remember me till now.  How touching!

Andrew was very moved when 2 youth sang the song 'Thank You For Giving To The Lord'.  He loves this song.  He has never expected anyone to sing and dedicate this song to him for what he has done.

We received many gifts from members as well.  Who are we?  We are just God's servants doing God's work.  For those who have been touched by our ministries in one way or another, we thank God that it is not by might, it is not by power, but by the Holy Spirit who enables us to minister.
